Tall man-made structure in Reesedale, PA

Yesterday and today my flight instructor and me flew to an extended instrument cross-country flight. We flew approaches in Bedford, MA, Dover, DE, Frederick, MD, Erie, PA, Syracuse, NY, Johnstown, NY, Schenectady, NY and lastly, Bedford, MA again.
We successfully combated mist, fog, precipitation, low ceiling, thunderstorms (OK, we didn't combat them, we kind of ran away, but we did so bravely), light to moderate chops, exhaustion, and the some guy by the name of Biden who was about to visit Erie PA and threatened to have the field temporarily closed and we in it. I think he did have the field temporarily closed, but we got away on time.

On our way from FDK to ERI, while avoiding the aforementioned thunderstorm cells, I saw a very tall man-made structure below. It looked too thick to be an antenna, but too tall for any common chimney (it's 1,010' above the surface). It might be a power plant or something (especially a big one), it's also positioned on a river. I was focused on other stuff so I didn't check. The sectional shows a few power lines going either to or from it, so it might be a power plant, I did some googling and I *suspect* it's Armstrong Power Station.

Here it is on Google Maps, you can see the pretty long shadow. Does anyone have any insight?

Hi, MT,

Even though it's located on Reese-something and Holly roads, It's also very close to Armstrong road - so I would suspect you are correct.

That was quite a bit of flying experience you got there - all in one bundle. ;)

Confirmed as Armstrong Power Station, operated by Allegheny Power.

Ranked as the 26th-worst polluting power plant in the US. Burns coal.

That must be the funniest thing I've read today :)
But then again, it's only 8.55 AM.

Sometime you should ask MT about "leading from the rear." ;) :D

I'm very happy for both of us that you stopped doing it.

"Following you from the front." Ah, yes - I could never remember it quite right. :D {chuckle]

Incidentally, in relation to another thread here on a different topic, I've never given up on the idea of appointing you our National Benevolent Dictator. The only difficulty we would have is adjusting to the then mandatory metric system - but we'd all gain from it in the end. ;) Three... uh, better make that TEN cheers for our Fearless Leader!!!

(P.S. Congratulations on finding that old post!!)

We're introducing USMT again? If I remember correctly, Drew didn't like the idea that much.

Interestingly, I heard something on NPR a while ago, about how in the peak of the Great Depression (late 20s-early 30s) the idea of a strong President that will act as dictator was quite popular. In Italy, Mussolini was in power, taking the country out of the Great Depression, and some in the US liked the idea. Testimonial to that was a car named the Studebaker Dictator. They dropped it in 1938, as in the eve of WWII people realized there are some bad things about dictatorship.
