Yesterday and today my flight instructor and me flew to an extended instrument cross-country flight. We flew approaches in Bedford, MA, Dover, DE, Frederick, MD, Erie, PA, Syracuse, NY, Johnstown, NY, Schenectady, NY and lastly, Bedford, MA again.
We successfully combated mist, fog, precipitation, low ceiling, thunderstorms (OK, we didn't combat them, we kind of ran away, but we did so bravely), light to moderate chops, exhaustion, and the some guy by the name of Biden who was about to visit Erie PA and threatened to have the field temporarily closed and we in it. I think he did have the field temporarily closed, but we got away on time.
On our way from FDK to ERI, while avoiding the aforementioned thunderstorm cells, I saw a very tall man-made structure below. It looked too thick to be an antenna, but too tall for any common chimney (it's 1,010' above the surface). It might be a power plant or something (especially a big one), it's also positioned on a river. I was focused on other stuff so I didn't check. The sectional shows a few power lines going either to or from it, so it might be a power plant, I did some googling and I *suspect* it's Armstrong Power Station.
Here it is on Google Maps, you can see the pretty long shadow. Does anyone have any insight?
