Ophthalmic Biometry?

Postby Elefino » Wed Oct 14, 2009 10:07 pm

What is it? I've received authorization from my HMO for ophthalmic biometry. Is that Surgeonese for cataract surgery? I hope so because that's what I asked for.
(biometry sounds to me like some kind of scan or measurement)

I think you're right...the 'metry' part probably refers to the fact they're going to take some measurements of your eyes (including your intraocular pressure) and perhaps also your visual acuity prior to doing the surgery.

Its a precursor to Cataract surgery

When they remove the cataract, they remove the lense and replace it with a clear one. The procedure measures the power of this lense, so they know what to replace it with.
