Obama's speech concerning Iran nukes

Who would ever group these three topics together? But we have .. so ask away!

Obama's speech concerning Iran nukes

Postby Ivan » Sat Sep 26, 2009 9:28 pm

It was good to see Gordon Brown and Sarkozy on the stage, next to Obama, while he denounced Irans hidden nuke facility. When you consider all six billion people on the plant, these three represent a tiny fraction, but it's better than nothing. I'm not saying that Iran shouldn't have some nukes (in this post), just that it's good to see some overt consenses. I don't know who else is on board with the finger pointing at Iran. Now they (the west I guess) are threatening to bust out the dreaded sanctions (que scary music).

It scares everyone because once Iran (or any other unstable state) starts getting nukes, then their neighbours will crank up their stocks too. It only takes some idiot in Iran or Libya or Israel (or wherever) with an itchy finger to decide to take out one of the others and then where will the rest of us be? I remember the days of the cold war when everyone was terrified of the Soviet Union in case they decided to nuke the US or western Europe and this amounts to the same sort of thing. The days when wars could be fought a long way off while everyone at home got on with a normal life are long since gone.
